The mission of FACS is to prepare students for family life, work life, and careers in family and consumer sciences by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed for strengthening the well-being of individuals and families across the life span; becoming responsible citizens and leaders in family, community, and work settings; promoting optimal nutrition and wellness across the life span; managing resources to meet the material needs of individuals and families; balancing personal, home, family and work lives; using critical and creative thinking skills to address problems in diverse environments; being successful in life management; developing employment and career plans; functioning effectively as providers and consumers of goods and services; appreciating human worth; and accepting responsibility for one's actions and success in family and work life. (Arkansas Department of Workforce Education, Career and Technical Education, Operational Guide for Occupational and Support Programs, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, July 1, 2007, p. 17)
The FACS Teacher Resource Center is dedicated to helping FACS teachers, especially in the great state of Arkansas, accomplish this mission with excellence. It is an outgrowth of the FACS Teachers Listserv which has been in existence for over ten years. Many of the resources contained in this Center are those which have been shared by dedicated, team-spirited FACS leaders in Arkansas. The hope is that we will all be better teachers, role models, and inspirational mentors for our students.
Both the Center and the Listserv are provided as a service by Dr. Beth Wilson, CFCS, CFLE, Professor and Chair, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Harding University, Box 12233, Searcy, AR 72143-2233, email email@example.com.
